Abbeyfield Chester Society Limited

Providing Older People with Supported Sheltered Housing

Who are we?

Abbeyfield Chester Society has been in Chester since 1963. We offer a safe and welcoming home in Handbridge, Chester. You’ll find us situated in a prime location, with lots of local amenities, and sites to see.

Our residents enjoy high standards of accommodation, companionship and a support service designed to promote independence. We ensure everyone living within Abbeyfield Chester are treated with dignity and respect.

Who are we suitable for?

Abbeyfield Chester Society is ideal for the elderly persons, of whom are very much independent, but would like a safe, family-like environment to share experiences with. Our accommodation has lots to offer, and our team of staff and volunteers will make you feel right at home.

We’re not suitable for:

We unfortunately do not have the facilities for wheelchair users. We are not a care home, therefore we cannot provide care for those who have conditions such as dementia or require 24/7 monitoring.

What do we offer?

Abbeyfield House offers 12 rooms (over two floors), each with a lounge/bed area, a small kitchen and an en-suite shower room. Both floors of the house also have a communal bathroom and a laundry room. A lift and stairs connect the two floors. We have a small potted garden with artificial grass and seating, at the front, which truly is a sun trap. To the rear, we have potted plants, and a more private secluded space.

Our large communal dining room is where you will enjoy two fabulous home cooked meals each day, in the company of the other residents at the house. We offer a two-course lunch with your fellow residents, and an evening meal. Residents are welcome to furnish their own rooms in their own style and to put up photographs and paintings on the wall to give it a personal touch.

Safety is our priority here at Abbeyfield Chester; and we offer a personal alarm in case of emergencies. We also have a secure entry system, with each resident having a separate doorbell & intercom system. We pride ourselves on the support we give to our residents and want them to be happy in their home, while enjoying the independence they wish in their day to day lives.

Close by is a newsagents, Post Office, Co-Operative convenience store with ATM, petrol station, butchers, greengrocer, cafe, hairdresser, chemist, and Handbridge Medical Centre. Not to mention, we have three pubs nearby, and the beautiful city of Chester being just a 15 minute walk away; where you'll find streets steeped in rich history and plenty to see and do.

If only we could have a house in every street to which everyone could be treated the same and share equally the kindness of the community around them
